Mike Norvell Responds to Brian Kelly's Message After Florida State's Beatdown Of No. 5 LSU

LSU head coach Brian Kelly made a bold claim ahead of the matchup with FSU, and Mike Norvell had the chance to respond after the team's win.

Florida State taking on LSU in Week 1 once again was a highly-touted matchup. It was easily the best matchup on the opening slate of games all around the country. It's hard for a top-ten matchup not to be this anticipated, but it lived up to the hype for Seminoles fans.

The Seminoles took down the Tigers 45-24 in dominating fashion, and LSU would have only scored 17 points had it not been for a garbage-time touchdown pass.

Heading into the matchup, with so much media attention and hype, LSU head coach Brian Kelly was asked about the matchup while on a radio appearance.

"We’re going to beat the heck out of Florida State," Kelly said on the radio

That might be one of the worst things to say about a top-ten matchup and the opposition, and it's hard to imagine that wasn't used as a motivation tactic from the Seminoles.

However, the opposite of Kelly's prediction happened, as Florida State more than handled business. It didn't seem as if the Seminoles were going to have such an explosive performance early. The first two touchdowns came after some offensive mishaps and a lack of rhythm, and were only scored on game-changing plays from Keon Coleman.

After the game, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was able to respond.

“It’s good to be able to play the game," Norvell said postgame while cracking a smile.

Keon Coleman had a sly response to Kelly's comments too.

"Where he say that at? (Laughter) I don't recall," Coleman said jokingly. "I didn't see anything at all."

The Seminoles' game spoke for itself. Jordan Travis put together a Heisman performance after, as mentioned, a rocky start. The run game was iffy, but was backed up by the dynamic receiver duo of Coleman and Johnny Wilson.

The No. 8 ranked Seminoles made a statement with their play, not on the radio a week ahead of a big matchup. They're going to ride off this momentum heading into future matchups and have the chance to have a more than special season.
