There's a reason why relationships are so important on the recruiting trail. They're crucial in a prospect's initial decision but they can also be extremely useful in this day and age of the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Florida State's coaching staff has made it a point to pursue recruits until the very end, even if the odds of winning out are slim. That's already benefitted the Seminoles once this cycle after the program brought Georgia defensive end transfer and FSU legacy Marvin Jones Jr. home to Tallahassee.

Those efforts could be beneficial to the Seminoles once again in the near future as LSU true freshman wide receiver Jalen Brown intends to enter the transfer portal. Brown only played in three games for the Tigers last season, making appearances against Missouri, Army, and Georgia State. He didn't end up recording any statistics.

The Florida native was one of the top prospects in the 2023 class and someone that Florida State recruited heavily. The Seminoles hosted him for multiple unofficial visits and gameday trips while he was at the prep level.

Brown built a strong relationship with head coach Mike Norvell and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans before ultimately signing with LSU. Norvell and Dugans are still with the Seminoles and have proven their ability to develop wide receivers over the last two years. He was also a teammate of current Florida State defensive end Lamont Green Jr. at Gulliver Prep.

“I have a great relationship with them (FSU),” Brown said to NoleGameday previously. “We talk weekly. Coach Dugans and Coach Norvell were telling me when I was there how much they want me to be a ‘Nole. I think I could go there and be that person who can stretch the field with deep vertical routes and my big-play ability. I’ve been friends with Lamont Green Jr. for a long time. I came to the game with his family. He talks to me a little bit but with us, it's more than football."

The 6-foot-1, 178-pound wide receiver was regarded as the No. 68 overall prospect, the No. 12 WR, and the No. 17 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2023 class according to 247Sports. As a junior, he caught 56 passes for 1,033 yards with 11 touchdowns while also returning kicks.

The Seminoles need a talent boost at wide receiver with Johnny Wilson and Keon declaring for the NFL Draft. Brown could begin to tap into some of his vast potential in Tallahassee alongside Kentron Poitier, Darion Williamson, Ja'Khi Douglas, Hykeem Williams, Destyn Hill, Vandrevius Jacobs, and some of the other receivers who will be back with the team in 2024.
