Two FSU Wide Receivers Listed In Top-10 Of ACC Rankings By College Football Network

In this story:
Florida State's wide receiver room took a big step forward last season following the addition of transfers such as Johnny Wilson, Mycah Pittman, Deuce Spann, and Winston Wright. The increased competition challenged returning players like Ontaria Wilson, Kentron Poitier, and Ja'Khi Douglas to elevate their game and ended up benefitting the entire offense in the process.

After the strides that were made last year, the unit has an opportunity to be among the best in the country in 2023. That all starts with dominating the ACC.
Two wide receivers from Florida State were recently listed in the top 10 of the conference rankings by College Football Network. That includes redshirt junior Johnny Wilson, who slots in at No. 1, and a name that might surprise some people - redshirt senior Winston Wright, at No. 10.
Wilson is coming off a career season where he caught 43 passes for 897 yards and a team-best five touchdowns. That included eight catches for 202 yards in Florida State's Cheez-It Bowl victory against Oklahoma.
"Johnny “Big Play” Wilson always seemed to come up big for Florida State down the stretch of the season in 2022. The Arizona State transfer nearly eclipsed 1,000 yards and did so while averaging over 20 yards per catch. That’s a ridiculous feat.
What’s most notable about the hulking 6’7″, 240-pounder is the fact that he doesn’t lurch around and has surprising speed and agility in his routes. Wilson is a great yards-after-catch threat and can run a full route tree to boot.
Wilson gets the edge as the top receiver in the conference as he has the top quarterback in the ACC throwing to him: Jordan Travis."
On the flip side, Wright was unable to suit up for Florida State last season after suffering a leg injury as a passenger in a car accident. He was the most experienced transfer receiver to join the program out of the portal last year. If he can somewhat return to form, Wright will make an impact for the Seminoles in the slot, especially with Mycah Pittman dealing with an injury.
Wright was very productive during three years at West Virginia. He caught 129 passes for 1338 yards and seven touchdowns on offense while returning 50 kickoffs for 1,236 yards and two touchdowns.
"An offseason injury kept the world from seeing Winston Wright Jr. on the field in 2022, but let it be known, if he’s fully healthy in 2023, there may not be a better inside receiver in all of college football. Wright is over a year removed from his dominant season at West Virginia in 2021, but make no mistake — he is a certified star at receiver.
Wright has the speed to burn slower defenders, the moves to shake the sickest defensive backs, and the catch-point prowess to dominate even the best corners. He can win all over the field and will be yet another weapon for the ACC’s No. 1 returning quarterback: Jordan Travis."
Wilson and Wright weren't the only players out of Florida State to earn high regard. Mycah Pittman slotted in at No. 13 on the 20-player list while Ja'Khi Douglas, Vandrevius Jacobs, Deuce Spann, and Hykeem Williams were all grouped in the honorable mention section (in that order). One player was ostensibly missing from the list - Redshirt junior Kentron Poitier who averaged 20.2 yards per catch in 2022, second on the team behind Wilson.
Regardless, it's clear that the Seminoles have a lot of expectations to live up to this fall. College Football Network previously named Jordan Travis the No. 1 quarterback in the conference while FSU's running back room was regarded as No. 2 in the conference behind Clemson.
