There were plenty of struggles and missteps during the early portions of the year as Florida State couldn't find a way to get its rushing attack on track. The tide finally shifted with the Seminoles coming off a BYE week as the offense racked up 282 yards and three touchdowns on the ground in a 39-17 victory against Virginia Tech.

A lot of that success can be attributed to a career performance by star running back Trey Benson. He rushed 11 times for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns to spark Florida State's offense. The total marked more yards than he had recorded during his first four appearances of the season (189).

Benson had touchdown runs of 85 yards and 62 yards in the second half to bring life back to the Seminoles after the Hokies closed the gap to within one possession. His long scoring burst in the fourth quarter put a cherry on top of a hard fought conference win to advance to 5-0.

Following the victory, Benson earned the honor of breaking the rock for the second time this season. He also picked up the sledgehammer after scoring three touchdowns on the ground during the home opening win against Southern Miss.

This was the fifth rock that Florida State has shattered this season. Wide receiver Keon Coleman earned the sledgehammer against LSU after scoring three touchdowns in his debut with the program. Trey Benson joined him the following week after recording a hat-trick of his own. DJ Lundy had the honor against Boston College following a performance that included an interception and a rushing touchdown. Linebacker Kalen DeLoach broke the rock after a game-changing forced fumble that he returned for a touchdown against Clemson.
