NFL Draft Analyst Places FSU Football Star Wide Receiver in Second Round

The former Seminole could be a value pick in the NFL Draft.

With the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft quickly approaching, the general offices of the 32 NFL teams looking for their next star have red string stretched across from player to player as they finalize their strategy ahead of April 25th.

After a monster 2023 season, Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman has been on everyone's radar. Coleman is expected to be taken early on Draft Night. Following a one-and-done transfer from Michigan State, he led the Seminoles in receiving yards (658) and touchdowns (11) and wowed with his acrobatic catches and playmaking ability.

NFL Draft Analysts Mel Kiper and Field Yates weighed in on their landing spot for Coleman. They predict the 6'3'', 213-pound Louisiana native headed to the Washington Commanders with the No. 40 pick in the second round.

“You look at past drafts, there are guys that were steals where they went, teams will take as a chance and draft a little higher, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. But I think early second round for Keon Coleman,” Kiper said. “Some still think he could go in the first, but again, there’s mixed opinion there. My attitude is that if he’s a good football player, and he is, then you just take him. If he ran 4.6, do you take him in the first? I was told, going into that Combine, that if he ran that, he’d be a second-round pick."

Although Coleman didn't blow everyone away with his 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine with a 4.61, he was timed with the top speed of any wide receiver in the gauntlet drill.

"I'm betting on the person. The football character is off the charts. The explosiveness in the red zone, I think really matters," Host Field Yates said. "The size, the versatility. He returned punts at times for Florida State. I'm in on Keon Coleman. I feel like this would be a great value for the Commanders at pick number 40."

Coleman was first-team All-ACC in three separate categories (wide receiver, all-purpose player, and return specialist) in 2023, marking the first player in FSU history to do so. Nominated as an All-American, Coleman could go as a value pick; however, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see him drafted early on in the festivities.
