On Monday, the Carolina Panthers announced that the franchise was re-signing veteran offensive lineman Cameron Erving to a one-year deal. Despite falling out of the starting lineup due to the selection of Ikem Ekwonu last season, Erving was instrumental with his contributions as a mentor for the rookie and role off the bench.

Entering his eighth year in the NFL, Erving has developed into a leader in the locker room and a voice that others listen to. He appeared in 11 games in 2022 and will be an important face for Carolina off the bench once again as the franchise retained all five of its starters along the offensive line a year ago.

The upcoming season will mark Erving's third year with the Panthers which ties the longest stint that he's had with a franchise at the professional level. He also played for the Kansas City Chiefs for three seasons (2017-19). Erving was originally selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Outside of the Panthers, Chiefs, and Browns, he's suited up for the Dallas Cowboys (2020). During his career, Erving has made 95 appearances, with 56 starts.

The Georgia native played his college football at Florida State under former head coach Jimbo Fisher. Spending five years in Tallahassee, Erving began his time with the Seminoles as a defensive tackle before being converted to the offensive side of the ball. He ended up slotting in as the starting left tackle for the majority of his final three seasons at Florida State. Erving also started games at center in 2014.

The versatile lineman was recognized for his hard work and success with the Seminoles. Erving was named a back-to-back first-team All-ACC selection to conclude his college career and was a member of the 2013 national championship team. He also won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy twice which is awarded to the best blocker in the ACC.
