BREAKING: Seminoles Land First Defensive End In 2024 Class In Physical Four-Star DD Holmes

In this story:
Florida State didn't land a verbal commitment during a month of June when the program hosted 28 official visitors. With other programs surging on the recruiting trail, some fans in Tallahassee began to show signs of panic.
Well, the sky isn't falling and the Seminoles are poised to add to their 2024 class over the next couple of weeks. The good news started early on the opening day of July as four-star defensive end DD Holmes announced his pledge to FSU over Maryland, South Carolina, and Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

The Seminoles were able to close on Holmes after getting the last impression during his round of official visits. He's the first edge-rusher to commit to the program in the 2024 class and became an instrumental target after Dylan Stephenson chose Stanford.
During his official visit, Holmes felt like head coach Mike Norvell and defensive ends coach John Papuchis showed him that he was a priority. He's also familiar with the success that the program has generated with defensive ends over the past couple of years.
"They were just showing me how much of a priority I am for them," Holmes said after his official visit. "We broke down some film. Every year they've produced great defensive ends so I feel like the system they have [fits me] very well."
Holmes was hosted by star defensive end Jared Verse and 2023 signee Jaden Jones while he was on campus. He enjoyed his time around Verse.
"It was great to see him outside of football mode," Holmes said. "He's a great person, very charismatic, and it was good spending time with him. I got a lot of insight from him. "
As a junior, he recorded 37 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles. Holmes is a physical presence off the edge who likes to punish opposing ballcarriers. He also possesses a motor that can't be taught and pretty good instincts.
With the addition of Holmes, Florida State's class moves from No. 26 to No. 18 in the country with 12 verbal commitments.
The 6-foot-6, 250-pound defensive lineman is regarded as the No. 274 overall prospect, the No. 32 DL, and the No. 2 recruit in D.C. in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
