The Florida State Seminoles are heading into the deep end of spring camp after wrapping up their first scrimmage last Saturday. Along with that scrimmage came numerous recruits from across the country to see what head coach Mike Norvell and staff are cooking in Tallahassee.

The 'Noles currently hold the No. 5 recruiting class for 2024, according to 247Sports.

Among those visitors was 2024 linebacker Montay Weedon, who spent two days on campus. The rising senior picked up an offer from the Seminoles last month and has also seen Texas join his budding recruitment.

"It was pretty good, you know?" Weedon said to NoleGameday's Tommy Mire. "Got here early, came to watch practice, a few meetings, just enjoying it."

One of the major players in Weedon's recruitment, along with defensive ends coach John Papuchis, is linebackers coach Randy Shannon, who seemed to continue to make a great impression on the young player from Washington, D.C.

"I was in a meeting with coach Shannon, actually seeing how it is and seeing how he coached; just building that relationship early," Weedon said. "He's a great coach, really hands-on, pretty cool guy; I love him. I love his style. I love the way he talks, coaches, teaches - everything. He loves his players."

Weedon kept an eye on the linebackers while attending Florida State's scrimmage on Saturday. He feels like the scheme is similar to what he's running now at the prep level.

"I love it. He's a great guy, old school type of guy. He coaches harsh. Actually, he loves to have fun too, so it's like a little bit of both," Weedon said. "The way they use their linebackers is similar to what my team played in high school, St. Johns. Like the same, I love it, the scheme, just everything."

Coming out of the trip, Florida State has set the benchmark in his recruitment.

"Florida State, actually, right now, is probably number one," Weedon claimed.

A few other schools are in the mix including Virginia Tech, Maryland, Tennesee and Texas. Weedon is looking to set up an official visit to Florida State in the summer. He plans to announce a decision prior to his senior season.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker has yet to be ranked in the 2024 class by 247Sports.
