Following an unofficial visit on Thursday where he was able to view Florida State's final practice prior to the Garnet & Gold Spring Showcase, four-star athlete Lawayne McCoy announced he was committing to the Seminoles over Miami, Penn State, Michigan State, and others.
The Florida native is viewed by Florida State as a wide receiver and has built a strong connection with position coach Ron Dugans throughout the recruiting cycle. The two communicate nearly every day.
"Coach Dugans, that's my guy," McCoy said previously. "Every time I came up here, he was the one showing me around, he was the one talking to me. So me and him have a really good bond, and I hope to keep that bond tight."
McCoy is the third wide receiver to commit to Florida State in the 2024 class, joining four-star TJ Abrams and four-star Camdon Frier. The Seminoles now hold nine verbal commitments and the No. 6 recruiting class in the country.
The Miami Central product played both ways as a junior on a team that won a state championship. He caught 20 passes for 491 yards and three touchdowns on offense while pulling down nine tackles, five pass deflections, and an interception on defense.
The 6-foot, 170-pound athlete is regarded as the No. 172 overall prospect, the No. 13 ATH, and the No. 28 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
