Four-Star TJ Abrams Clarifies Commitment Status Following Official Visit to Florida State

This past weekend was important in more ways than one for Florida State as the program hosted a combination of committed prospects and top targets for official visits. While the coaching staff was focused on continuing to build its 2024 class they also wanted to clarify the status of at least one commitment.

Four-star wide receiver TJ Abrams pledged to the Seminoles in January following a multi-day trip to campus. He returned to Tallahassee for the first time in six months after officially visiting Texas A&M and Florida earlier in June.

"It was great to be back home, get talking back with everybody and getting back that relationship that we had," Abrams said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis.

The trip reassured Abrams about his decision to pick the Seminoles earlier this year. He didn't feel like the staff pushed or acted any differently despite him continuing to explore his options.

"It has always been the same, they've been preaching to me," Abrams said. "Just had that reassurance so you know it's real, not fake. You've got to come in, you've got to work. That's really the biggest motto that stood out to me."

"Like I said. it was reassuring," Abrams continued. "You know, everybody has this image painted of 'if I'm going here, if I'm going there' but they don't know me. I'm me. So it was good to be back home."

Wide receivers coach Ron Dugans was around Abrams and his family for the majority of the weekend. He simply wanted the speedster to enjoy himself on the visit.

"Just enjoy it really," Abrams said. "Just make sure at the end of the day after all the recruiting is done, to just come back home."

The Florida native spent time with multiple players, including his host - redshirt junior wide receiver Darion Williamson. Abrams liked the perspective he provided about the Seminoles.

"I had Darion Williamson. Cool dude, he's just like me, acting nonchalant," Abrams said. "He was really cool. I was asking him personal questions, seeing if this was really the spot for me. He made sure to keep it real with me. Let me know that I was really the place."

This was the first time that Abrams had met four-star quarterback and fellow FSU commit, Luke Kromenhoek, in person. The two hit it off after previously communicating through social media and text messages.

"Real cool dude. I never really met him in person like I've seen him online," Abrams said. "We've chatted up online and stuff but seeing him in person, I really see myself playing with him. He's a cool dude."

Prior to departing from Florida State's campus on Sunday, he sat down with head coach Mike Norvell for a meeting. Norvell made it clear that he's fine with Abrams exploring his options because he won't find a better program than the Seminoles.

"He really picked up where Coach Dugans left off, 'Come back home.' He doesn't want to be one of those schools who say, 'Oh you want to see other places, oh you don't have an offer from us now. Go see the other places, just know it's not better than Florida State.'"

Where does his commitment stand after visiting Florida State, Texas A&M, and Florida in June?

"I ain't going to put any more percentages on it because they like to take it and run with it but it's real strong," Abrams said. "It got stronger for sure."

Abrams will turn his attention to enjoying the rest of his summer ahead of his senior season. He hasn't shut down his recruitment but there aren't any specific programs that he's looking to officially visit at this time. Abrams will return to FSU on an unofficial visit in the fall.

"Really, I'd say I'm done for the summer at least because I'm just trying to vibe," Abrams said. "It's my last summer as a kid, so I'm just trying to enjoy it. I'm gonna take my time. On signing day, that's when you'll know anything."

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound wide receiver is regarded as the No. 254 overall prospect, the No. 38 WR, and the No. 40 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
