Florida State is hosting an end-of-summer recruiting event on Saturday, dubbed the Seminole Showcase, that is featuring multiple commitments and some of the top prospects in the country. However, at least one recruit who is currently pledged to the Seminoles is visiting elsewhere this weekend.

According to Inside The U's Gaby Urrutia, four-star wide receiver Lawayne McCoy is at Miami for an unofficial visit today. McCoy has been committed to FSU since a visit in April ahead of the Spring Showcase.

However, the Florida native hasn't returned to Tallahassee since his pledge. Last month, he took an unofficial visit to UCF and competed in a camp that was held on Miami's campus.

The Seminoles are hoping to bring him in for an official visit late in the recruiting cycle, ideally in November or December prior to the Early Signing Period. McCoy has been to FSU five times during his recruitment and has developed a strong relationship with wide receivers coach Ron Dugans.

"Coach Dugans, that's my guy," McCoy said to NoleGameday previously. "Every time I came up here, he was the one showing me around, he was the one talking to me. So me and him have a really good bond, and I hope to keep that bond tight."

Florida State landed nine verbal commitments in July but did see four-star wide receiver TJ Abrams flip from the program to rival Florida. Could McCoy make the move to a rival program as well?

The Seminoles remain involved with some of the top wide receivers in the country, including a trio of five-star prospects that are pledged to other schools - Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State), Joshisa Trader (Miami), and Cameron Coleman (Texas A&M). Smith is at FSU this weekend for the second time in the last month.

As a junior, McCoy played on both sides of the ball for a Miami Central High School team that won the 2M state title. He caught 20 passes for 491 yards and three touchdowns on offense while recording nine tackles, five pass breakups, and an interception on defense.

FSU holds 19 verbal commitments in its 2024 class which ranks No. 7 in the country.

The 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver is regarded as the No. 161 overall prospect, the No. 11 ATH, and the No. 25 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
