Three-Star Defensive Tackle Keishawn Mashburn Backs Off Pledge to Florida State

The Seminoles lost a commitment in their 2024 class on Thursday morning.

Florida State has built plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail over the last couple of weeks. The Seminoles are primed to go on a run in the near future with the amount of talent around the country eyeing what's going on in Tallahassee.

That is going to lead to a couple of tough decisions. On Thursday morning, three-star defensive tackle Keishawn Mashburn announced that he was backing off his pledge to Florida State via his social media pages. Mashburn had originally committed on July 23, 2022, and it's believed that this was a mutual decision by the two parties to part ways.

"After much thought and talks with my family I have decided to decommit from Florida State University. I want to thank Coach Norvell and the staff for the love they have shown through the process. My recruit is 100 percent open and I look forward to finding the best fit for me and my family."

The local product visited Florida State ten times since picking up a scholarship offer from the program last January. His main contact with the Seminoles was through defensive line coach Odell Haggins.

FSU is expected to turn its attention to other targets on the defensive tackle board such as four-star Kamarion Franklin, four-star Artavius Jone, four-star D'Antre Robinson, and rising prospect Nasir Johnson.

The Seminoles still have three-star defensive tackle Jamorie Flagg committed at this time, who is coming off a multi-day trip to Florida State alongside his family over the weekend. The class ranking didn't take a hit, holding strong at No. 5 in the country according to 247Sports with eight verbal commitments remaining in Tribe24.

The 6-foot-2, 280-pound defensive tackle is regarded as the No. 1108 overall prospect, the No. 101 DL, and the No. 140 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class.

Mashburn totaled 63 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and three quarterback hurries in ten appearances as a junior for Munroe High School.
