Summary of The First Half of The Georgia Bulldogs Baseball Season

The University of Georgia find themselves 24-6 as we are just past the halfway point. Three of the six losses came from a midweek game. The Dawgs are shaping up nicely to host a regional yet again. Georgia is also in a three-way tie for first place in the SEC (Mississippi St. and Texas).
The University of Georgia played a mid-week game against Georgia State on Tuesday (3/31). The event was a back-and-forth match with the Panthers answering anything that Georgia recorded. In the top of the 8th, the Panthers recorded 6 runs to go up by three. The Dawgs answered by scoring 9 runs of their own to put the game away.
The offense loves to hit the long ball, as they have recorded the most home runs (87) in the country. The University of Pittsburgh is in second place with only 63 home runs. They have proved that their offense can still hit the ball out of the park, as last year they also led the country in homers.

The pitching has been solid, only being an issue in a few games. RHP Joey Volchko has found his home at the University of Georgia. Volchko has a record of 5-0 and has an ERA of 3.93. The transfer from Stanford has done a great job of freezing batters with his cutter.
Daniel Jackson, "The Rhino", has been the backbone of the Bulldogs offense. Jackson has a batting average of .412 and has knocked 16 homers. Not only is he good with the bat, but he is also one of the best defensive catchers in the nation. Jackson has thrown out half of the runners who have tried to steal a base.
Third basemen Tre Phelps has been Mr. Consistent for the Bulldogs. Every time he steps into the box, you get a feeling that any ball could leave the ballpark. Phelps has recorded 12 homers and has a batting average of .423. Having the dynamic duo of Phelps and Jackson has been the keystone factor for the Bulldogs offense.

Head coach Wes Johnson has done a great job coaching his players as we dive deeper into SEC play and enter the back half of the season. The Dawgs will travel to Starkville to face off against #4 Mississippi State University. A classic #4 v.s. #5 matchups that you don't want to miss. Both teams are tied at first in the SEC, and it is to be expected that we will see many highlight moments during this matchup.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are on a 9-game winning streak. The Dawgs will have to be on top of their game as Mississippi State can score quickly. The offense will have to start hot and stay hot throughout the series. A great opportunity for the Georgia Bulldogs to prove to the country that they deserve to stay in the top 5.
