The UGA men’s basketball ended with a win in their battle Tuesday night against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with a final score of 76-62.

Athens. GA – The UGA men’s basketball ended with a win in their battle Tuesday night against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with a final score of 76-62. This second home game in a stretch of five consecutive and the win brings the Dawgs to 6-3. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets are now 4-3.

The Dawgs struck first with a free throw from Silas Demary Jr. of a foul on the Yellow Jackets’ Naithan George. Both teams started the period off slowly with UGA being up only 14-10 in the first 10 minutes. However, UGA went on a minor 14-7 pt run starting at 15:30 to 5:27 which brought the score to 23-12. The Dawgs maintained a lead during the entirety of the first period and were efficient in rebounding (having 27 rebounds to Georgia Tech’s 19) with a major contribution from Russel Tchewa who had 5 rebounds.

On the Yellow Jacket side of the ball, Miles Kelly was a major contributor in the first half leading the team in rebounds (4) and assists (2). However, Georgia Tech struggled offensively shooting only 26.5% on 34 field goal attempts and 16.7% on 12 three-points during the half. The Dawgs on the other hand were 40% on 35 field goal attempts. This large deficit contributed to the Dawgs’ dominance in the first half which ended 36-20.

Georgia Tech’s Baye Ndongo opened up the second period with a field goal with 18:19 left. The Yellow Jackets would outscore the Dawgs 10 to 6 within the first five and a half minutes of the period sliming the lead to its lowest point in the period at 12 points up for UGA (the score being 30-42). Despite the Yellow Jackets scoring first, UGA kept their game lead throughout the entire second period which peaked with 10:21 left in the game at 23 points.

The Yellow Jackets put up almost double what they did in the first period but were unable to get any significant runs going or capture any momentum to close in on the large UGA lead. While the Dawgs also did not go on any major scoring runs, they expanded upon their large lead established in the first period winning the game 72-62. This was done through the efforts of many players for the Dawgs. However, senior guard for the Dawgs, Noah Thomasson had a huge game putting up 16 points as well as freshman guard Blue Cain who shot 4 for 7 from the top of the arch.

This was an overall dominant game for UGA who won by their biggest point margin of the season (14 points) and the win tonight marks their fourth win in a row and fifth win at home. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech suffered their second loss at an away game making them 0-2 at home. The Dawgs hope to capitalize on this win and continue their win streak in their next home game against High Point.
