What Georgia Basketball Needs to do to Beat Wake Forest

Georgia plays its first home game of the 2023-24 season this Friday against ACC team Wake Forest.

Friday is a chance for Georgia basketball to right the ship early in the 2023-24 campaign. The Bulldogs lost its season opener to Oregon by double-digits Monday night, nut they host an ACC opponent in Wake Forest this Friday in the friendlier confines of Stegman Coliseum.

Here's what Georgia needs to do right Friday to pick up the victory over the Demon Deacons.

Shoot Better

Seems obvious right? You can't win if you don't make shots. That's especially important for a team filled with transfers and freshmen. The 2023-24 Bulldogs are still building chemistry and finding a rhythm. Nothing in basketball accomplishes that better than scoring points in bunches.

This Georgia team is capable of that, there are multiple sharpshooters on the team and they shot lights out in the exhibition. For whatever reason, the Bulldogs were cold Monday night against Oregon. Maybe it was the 2,000-mile trip to Las Vegas; the first regular season game as a team against a high-quality opponent; or a combination of both.

A great offensive performance wouldn't just mean a victory Friday, but it also means more momentum to carry through a non-conference slate that features four more power conference opponents (Miami, Kansas State/Providence, Florida State, and Georgia Tech).

Dominate Down Low

Georgia crumbled in the low-post against Oregon, allowing center N'Faly Dante to have his way, scoring 16 points and grabbing 21 boards. The Duck's other center Nate Biddle added 13 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, the Bulldog's 7-0 center Russel Tchewa struggled in his Georgia debut by recording just nine boards and five points.

Friday presents an opportunity for Georgia to establish an identity in the paint. Wake Forest's largest member of its starting five is Andrew Carr, a 6-9 forward. He is coming off a solid 24 points, nine rebounds outing against Elon, but he's never been a dominant big man in his career. he exceeded 10 boards just four times last season, though he's typically a threat to score in the mid-teens.

This is the matchup to watch as Tchewa and Carr are both looking to assert themselves as senior low-post leaders on their respective squads. A big game for Tchewa means more opportunities for Georgia's offense to build momentum.
