The Georgia Bulldogs are expected to hire Jarvis Hayes as an assistant coach.

The Georgia Bulldogs have undergone some changes since the end of the season. They have had a multitude of players enter the transfer portal since their loss in the tournament, but this time, the change is an addition to the coaching staff.

Former Georgia basketball player Jarvis Hayes is expected to be hired as an assistant coach. Hayes was hired by Georgia State in 2019 to be an assistant and prior to that was an assistant at Morehouse College.

Hayes ended up being a legend in the Georgia basketball world. He played three seasons at Georgia and ended up being the 10th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. In the two seasons he played in Athens, he averaged just over 18 points per game. He also was a 2x All-SEC nominee and was named SEC Rookie of the Year.

He would go on to play seven seasons in the NBA with Washington, Detroit and New Jersey. In his best season, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists. It was his second season in the league. He did make the All-Rookie team his first year in the league.

After his career in the NBA, Hayes would go on to play a lengthy career overseas. He officially quit playing in 2015.

Jarvis was an assistant coach for hiw twin brother Jonas at Georgia State. Jonas had spent multiple seasons at Georgia as an assistant before he joined Xavier's coaching staff and then ultimately landed the head coaching job at Georgia State. Unfortunately for Jonas, he was fired from being the head coach at Georgia State after this season.

It is worth noting that Jarvis Hayes' son is one of the top recruits in the 2027 class. Jarvis Hayes Jr. is rated as a four-star prospect, the 35th-best player in the country, the third-best shooting guard and the fifth-best player in the state, according to 247 composite rankings.

The Bulldogs have already been recruiting Hayes Jr. to the team, and the addition of Hayes to the coaching staff should certainly help their chances with landing him in the next recruiting cycle.

Georgia will continue to have changes occur throughout the offseason as they add new faces to the roster, but Hayes if the first newcomer of the offseason for head coach Mike White.
