Five-Star Georgia DL Target LJ McCray Announces Commitment Date

Georgia football has held the No.1 ranking in the 247 Sports recruiting team rankings for most of the 2024 cycle. As the early-signing period looms just two months away, the Bulldogs are looking to cement their status atop the rankings with a strong finish to the 2024 class and of its highest-rated remaining targets has announced a commitment date. On Thursday, five-star DL LJ McCray announced a commitment date of Oct.21.

Georgia is one of five finalists for McCray’s commitment along with Florida, Florida State, Miami, and Auburn. The Daytona Beach, Florida native officially visited Georgia on June 16 after initially being offered a scholarship by the Bulldogs on Mar.3.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive lineman is the No.119 overall prospect and No.18 DL in the 247 Composite rankings. However, McCray is ranked inside the top-5 of both On3’s and 247 Sports’ individual rankings. On3 has the Mianland (FL) prospect ranked as its No.1 DL prospect. McCray is one of several remaining highly-rated defensive line targets on Georgia’s board. He is the latest of Georgia’s defensive line targets to announce a commitment date in recent weeks, following Mater Dai DL Aydin Breland who is set to make his college choice known on Oct.14.

Following the recent decomittment of WR Ny Carr, Georgia now has 26 commitments in its 2024 class. Georgia currently has five defensive linemen committed to this year's class, and McCray, if he elects to commit to Georgia, would become the sixth DL to join Georgia’s top-rated class.
