Georgia's 2024 Schedule Will Have a Major Impact on CFP

Georgia football's 2024 schedule features two, maybe even four, games that could have a massive impact on the first ever 12-team college football playoff.

College football is still in the early stages of the offseason, but one could argue it is never too early to look ahead at the upcoming season. The 2024 season will feature some massive changes to the sport, the two biggest being conference realignment and the first-ever edition of the 12-team college football playoff. The Georgia Bulldogs have a tough slate ahead of them, and several of their matchups will impact the college football playoff seeding.

ESPN's Heather Dinich recently released an article that compiled a list of upcoming games during the 2024 season that will have college football playoff implications. The two matchups that were at the top of the list were Georgia at Texas coming in at number one and Georgia at Alabama right behind. The Longhorns hosting the Bulldogs will certainly be one of the more anticipated matchups of the season, and Georgia vs Alabama has become an all-time classic as of late, but those aren't the only two matchups that will have an impact on the playoff.

The Bulldogs will get their season started with a neutral site matchup against the Clemson Tigers at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Tigers certainly had a disappointing season in 2023 but it will provide an early look at how each team will fare down the rest of the stretch. Early betting lines indicate that Georgia will be multiple score favorite and Bulldog fans will find out early the outlook of their team.

Another matchup that was not included on the list that looks to be setting up as a tier-one conference game is Georgia going on the road to face Ole Miss late in the season. The two teams met in 2023 as Georgia dismantled the Rebels in Sanford Stadium by scoring over 50 points, but Ole Miss went searching in the transfer portal to obtain some much needed depth on both sides of the ball. With the expanded playoff coming into play this next season, the Rebels will likely be tabbed as a contender for a playoff spot, and by the time this game rolls around, it could end up having major college football playoff seeding implications.

With the college football playoff shifting to 12 teams, the expectation in Athens is that the Bulldogs should be an annual playoff team, and rightfully so. Since head coach Kirby Smart arrived, the Bulldogs have finished inside of the top 12 every season since 2017. They will have to maneuver through a tough schedule in 2024 in order to land a playoff spot this year, but if they maintain the same regular season success they have had over the last three seasons, they'll be in a prime spot to push for another national title.
