Sedrick Van Pran Named Finalist for Rimington Trophy

Georgia Bulldogs center Sedrick Van Pran Granger has been named a finalist for the Rimington Trophy. The award winner will be announced on Friday, Dec. 8.

For the (12-1) Georgia Bulldogs, 2023 to 2024 will look mightly different regarding who will be on the team and who will find themselves elsewhere. The Dawgs have already had plenty of transfer portal news that will affect the roster, but some players' seniority will also affect the roster. 

One of these players is arguably the greatest offensive lineman to play for the Bulldogs, Sedrick Van Pran. SVP was recently named a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the player who is voted the best center in college football. 

He was named a finalist alongside Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon and Drake Nugent from Michigan. The winner from these three great players will be announced during ESPN's College Football Awards Show, which will air on Friday, Dec. 8. Last year, the University of Michigan brought home the hardware when center Olusegun Oluwatimi won the award for the 2022 season.

The Rimington Trophy was named after Dave Remington, a former center for the Nebraska Cornhuskers team during the early 1980s. He is the only player in college football history to win the Outland Trophy twice (1981, 1982) while also winning the Lombardi Trophy in 1982, the Big Eight Offensive Player of the Year in '82, and the Orange Bowl Offensive Player of the Game in '82.

In what could be SVP's final game in the red, black, and silver britches will be in South Beach when the Dawgs travel to Miami to play in the Orange Bowl against the ACC Champions - the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles. The game will be on Dec. 30th and will air on ESPN at 4 p.m.
