With Nick Saban Gone, Who is Georgia's Biggest Threat in the SEC?

Who is now the Bulldogs' biggest threat in the SEC following Nick Saban's retirement announcement?

Nick Saban's reign of dominance over college football ended this past week as the legendary head football coach announced that he would be retiring. During his time at Bama, Saban boasted a staggering 8-2 record against the Bulldogs and was a major thorn in Georgia fan's sides as he likely prevented the Bulldogs from winning a handful of national championships.

But now that the undisputed "GOAT" of college football is no longer in the picture, who is the Bulldogs' biggest threat in the SEC? After all, the Bulldogs have not been defeated by a team other than Alabama since the 2020 season and have not been defeated by an active coach since the 2018 season when Tom Herman's Texas Longhorns defeated the Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl.

But although the Bulldogs have dominated the sport of college football (outside of when they play Nick Saban). There are still a handful of super talented teams currently in the SEC as well as some dangerous newcomers.

Alabama's new head coach Kalen DeBoer is fresh off of a national championship appearance with the Washington Huskies and will likely ensure that the Tide does not take a major step back in the wake of Saban's abscence.

As well as DeBoer's entrance, the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will also be members of the SEC beginning in the 2024 season. The Longhorns, who also appeared in the playoffs last season defeated Nick Saban and the Tide while on the road in Tuscaloosa.

As well as dangerous newcomers, the emergence of teams like Missouri and Ole Miss as top-10 teams will make the Bulldogs' path to glory that much harder.

With the exit of Nick Saban from the sport of college football, it appears that there is no longer one team that can stop the Bulldogs from consistently winning championships. However, the emergence of top-10 SEC programs, a list of dangerous newcomers, and a grueling 12-team playoff schedule is what will likely become the roadblock in the Bulldogs' path to the national championship.
