Georgia has a new baseball coach for the first time in ten years after the announcement that they would be hiring LSU assistant Wes Johnson has been named the new head coach.

Johnson spent the last three years as the LSU pitching coach. Prior to his work with the Tigers, Johnson was the pitching coach for fellow SEC baseball staples Mississippi State and Arkansas.

The Diamond Dawgs wrapped up their 2023 season this past Tuesday in the first round of the SEC tournament, being eliminated by LSU. The Dawgs had a 29-27 record on the year and went 11-19 in SEC play. Stricklin will be finishing his career posting a 299-236-1 overall record. While heading the team, he led them to the NCAA tournament three times, in 2018, 2019, and 2022.

Brooks had this to say about the decision to relieve Scott Stricklin of his duties as Georgia's head coach, "After much thought and deliberation, we feel it is in the best interest of our baseball program to move in a different direction. We will begin immediately the process of a national search to identify the next leader of our baseball team."
