Kirby Smart's Challenge to Fans on Saturday

Another season and another challenge from Kirby Smart to Dawg Nation has risen for this weekend.

With Georgia's first two games of the season out of the way, it is time to start gearing their focus toward conference play. This weekend, the first team on the list to cross off will come to Athens, GA, in the South Carolina Gamecocks. During Kirby Smart's press conference Monday afternoon, he presented a challenge to Georgia fans attending the game on Saturday.

In many of his previous seasons as the head man of the Georgia football program, Smart has challenged Dawg Nation on multiple occasions, and each time, they answered the bell. With a rivalry such as South Carolina v. Georgia, Smart will use whatever he can to motivate his players for their battle on Saturday. One of these motivating factors comes from SEC Media Days.

During the media days, South Carolina player Tonka Hemingway was asked what the toughest road environment in the SEC was, and Hemingway's response was Kyle Field for Texas A&M and Neyland Stadium for Tennessee, but he excluded Sanford Stadium. Smart and his staff must've caught wind of these comments, and he brought it up during his press conference on Monday afternoon.

"People want to question whether or not our fans are elite, I guess we'll find out Saturday," Smart stated. "Sounds like Tonka called them out. Maybe we need to use Tonka for motivation and let him be the one that spurns our group to come out there at 3:30 and be really loud and fired up. I certainly hope our fan base will be. They've answered the bell every single time. I don't know why they wouldn't now."

With a stadium that has reached as high as 110 decibels, Bulldog fans surely know how to make Sanford Stadium rock. For the first SEC matchup of the 2023 season, Smart is challenging fans to pack the stands and be loud and rowdy, as they were for Notre Dame in 2019 and Tennessee in 2022, and the multiple G Day's Smart has challenged fans to sell out.

The historic rivalry will take place Saturday, September 16th, at 3:30 p.m. and will air on CBS.
