Potential Immediate Impact Freshmen for Georgia

Who amongst the freshman class for Georgia has a chance to make an immediate impact in year one?

We have started the countdown until Georgia football is back, which can only mean one thing. It’s time to start breaking down different aspects of the Bulldogs.

Georgia looks to make history this year by competing for its third national title in consecutive years. Some important pieces are returning this year for Georgia, but there are a couple of incoming freshmen that can make an impact for the Dawgs early and often.

Damon Wilson is an incoming freshman for the Bulldogs who has the potential to make an immediate impact. Wilson possesses excellent athleticism and a high motor, which could make him a valuable asset in the Bulldogs' pass rush.

Georgia's ability to get after the quarterback has been good, however finishing has lacked consistency. With Nolan Smith now in the league, they’ll need someone else to step up in that position. With Wilson's skills and work ethic, he has the potential to be a disruptive force and contribute to the defense as a freshman.

Jordan Hall, a five-star defensive lineman is another young prospect that could see early playing time. Georgia lost Bear Alexander to the portal a short time ago who was projected by some to be a starter, if not at least a major contributor to this defense. With Alexander’s departure, it welcomed competition on the defensive line with guys like Nazir Stackhouse, Zion Louge, Christian Miller, Warren Brinson, and others. Hall has impressed the coaching staff early and very well could be in the running for some playing time.

Roderick Robinson II is a freshman who joins this running back room, which has been dinged up quite a bit this offseason and has some question marks heading into the season. Dell McGee may have to look to the freshman back to add some depth to the running game early. Robinson possesses great size as he is listed at 6’0”, 235 pounds, and finished his senior season with 2,378 yards and 39 touchdowns on 217 carries. Look for him to have chances early and often.

Lawson Luckie, a guy that has been added to the star-studded list of players that Todd Hartley has recruited at that position, has impressed early as well. The loss of Darnell Washington will be something to keep a close eye on, especially when it comes to how Mike Bobo will use his personnel. Georgia ran a lot of 12 personnel this past season under former offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who is now in the NFL with the Ravens. If Bobo continues that, Luckie is a safe bet to see some time behind All-American tight end Brock Bowers and Oscar Delp.

Kirby Smart and his staff have done yet another fantastic job of not only recruiting some of the top talent across the nation but picking up guys that can make an early impact from day one. Malaki Starks, Mykel Williams, and Branson Robinson are prime examples of that. How effective and how much impact these four freshmen and the others can have, should be fun to watch.
