Brock Bowers Compared to A Top NFL Tight End

Brock Bowers, one of the nation's best tight ends, receives some well-deserved recognition in this recent comparison from a former NFL scout.

Year-in and year-out, draft comparisons are provided over upcoming draft prospects and how they compare to players we have already seen at the professional level. Brock Bowers is one of these prospects who is already receiving these comparisons. Former NFL scout and current NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah has recently compared one of college football's best tight ends to one of the top NFL tight ends currently in George Kittle.

Kittle, the San Fransico 49ers TE, has been one of the league's premiere tight ends, most notably within the last five years. Kittle has been known for his "juice" in the run-blocking game, explosiveness with the ball in his hand, and his ability to make defenders miss. Jeremiah sees some similar things when watching Bowers play.

"Explosive, Dynamic, Urgency, Burst, and Juice," Jeremiah notes that these words consistently pop up in his notes after watching Bowers play. Game after game, Bowers becomes an immediate threat on the field whenever he has the ball in his hands — leading all tight ends last season with 479 yards after the catch. Bowers always seems to gain the extra yard each time he gets the ball, whether he uses his burst and explosiveness or lowers the shoulder pad into a defender and drives his legs for more.

Jeremiah sees that not only in Bowers but in Kittle, stating, "Both guys really separate out of breaks and refuse to be tackled by the first defender after the catch. There's a will to fight for every single yard..." Although they have this similarity, the two players are still different. "Kittle is a more consistent blocker in the run game, but Bowers has a little more juice after the catch," Jeremiah stated.

Run-blocking isn't something that we have seen from Bowers often, mainly because Georgia has used him broken off from the line of scrimmage. This hasn't scared teams away from drafting tight ends that have received similar connotations (Kyle Pitss, 2020; Dalton Kincaid, 2023).

Although Bowers' run-blocking ability may be in question to some, Jeremiah still believes that his career has the upside of Kittle's, as a top-two/three player at his position for the bulk of his career."
