Georgia's Running Back Room Runs Even Deeper Than Expected

After Georgia's spring scrimmage game, one major takeaway was that the Bulldogs' running back room runs even deeper than many may have expected.

Georgia for the most part remained a very healthy team throughout spring practice, but the running back room experienced several injuries which caused players to miss out on the Bulldogs' spring game. Veteran running back Kendall Milton was sidelined for the remainder of spring practice for precautionary reasons due to a hamstring injury, Andrew Paul is still rehabbing an ACL tear from last Fall and sophomore Branson Robinson missed the spring game due to a lower extremity injury.

As a result, it provided an opportunity for other running backs to get a heavy dosage of reps during the scrimmage and it showed that Georgia's running back room is even deeper than expected. The Bulldogs knew they had two seasoned veterans in Milton and Daijun Edwards and a young rising star in Robinson, but they got a good look at some of the other names on Saturday.

One player that flashed quite a bit throughout the scrimmage was Cash Jones, a former three-star recruit in the 2021 class. Jones's usage over the past couple of years has been very limited in his role as a reserve, but he displayed his potential as a threat out of the backfield on Saturday. He finished the day with four receptions for 34 yards and toted the rock four times for 24 yards on the ground. With Kenny McIntosh now off the NFL, Georgia has been wondering who their next dual-threat running back will be, and Jones just might be the guy to help fill that void a little bit.

The true freshman Roderick Robinson also had himself a day this past weekend. He received 11 carries and tallied 42 rushing yards. Robinson was one of two running backs that Georgia signed in the 2023 class and was the only running back to receive double-digit carries on G-Day. It's a small sample size, but he proved he is capable of getting the job done if his number gets called later in the Fall.

Georgia has always had a knack for finding talent at the running back position, and Saturday was yet another testimony to that. Even without two of their potential feature backs for the 2023 season, Jones and Robinson still made the running backs a bright spot during the scrimmage. It was known that the Bulldogs had a lot of depth at the position heading into the spring, but Saturday's scrimmage proved that they're running even deeper than expected at running back.
