Way too Early Look at Georgia's 2023 Running Back Depth Chart

A way too early look at Georgia's depth chart at running back heading into the 2023 season.

There's arguably not another position that goes hand in hand more than the running back spot and the University of Georgia. The program has produced decades-long of success stories, and fans have seen some of the most dominant duos and even trios play together in Athens.

For the 2023 season, Georgia will boast a very experienced running back room as the only player that will not be returning from 2022 is senior Kenny McIntosh, who is now off to the NFL. So needless to say, there is much to be excited about for Georgia's 2023 running back corp.

Going from top to bottom, there are two players who seem to be the early headliners of this group. Daijun Edwards and Kendall. Both are rising seniors for the upcoming year and were the second and third options behind McIntosh. Both veteran backs are also coming off very productive years for the Bulldogs.

Edwards gradually climbed up the depth chart throughout his career. Prior to the 2022 season, he served the role of Georgia's "mop up duty" running back who helped chew the clock and push the ball down the field late in games. In 2022 though, he finished as the team's second-leading rusher and even led the team in yards and touchdowns at one point and time in the season. He finished the year with 771 yards, seven touchdowns and an average of 5.5 yards per carry.

Milton finished the 2022 season with the third most rushing yards on the team. He battled through some injuries throughout the season but had several games in which he looked like the physical runner every fan hoped he would be when he was healthy. He had a superb game against LSU in the SEC Championship game where he finished with 113 rushing yards on just 13 attempts. Milton also put his name into an elite statistical group to close out his junior season.

Right behind Milton and Edwards is Branson Robinson who pieced together a pretty impressive freshman campaign for himself. His breakout game came against Auburn in which he rushed for 98 yards on 12 carries. In that game, he became the first true freshman Georgia running back to rush for 95-plus yards in his first 10-carry performance since Sony Michel in 2014. Robinson also scored two touchdowns during the National Championship game.

Two other names to know for the 2023 season are Andrew Paul and Roderick Robinson. Paul was in the same recruiting class as B. Robinson and was impressive during camp leading up to the 2022 season. Unfortunately, Paul suffered a torn ACL right before the start of the season and would miss the entire year.

R. Robinson was at one point committed to playing his college career at UCLA but then flipped to the Bulldogs to join the 2023 recruiting class. While there might be quite a few names ahead of him on the depth chart to start out with, Georgia has shown to have no issue throwing a true freshman into a game whenever they feel the player is ready.

It's no surprise to say that Georgia's running back room is in good shape heading into a new season, but it will be interesting to see how the carries are distributed amongst this group. The Bulldogs have a tendency to really spread out the number of touches their backs receive which means all the names listed could very well be valuable contributors to the offense in the new year.
