NFL Draft Profile: Is Kenny McIntosh the Most Versatile Back in the Draft?

The Buzz around Kenny McIntosh has been growing for quite some time now. But just how far will it take him?

The running back position has evolved over the years in the NFL. While the game still features successful "between the tackles" runners such as Nick Chubb and Derrick Henry, the workload of a running back has drastically changed over the years.

Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh is a direct reflection of this change. Georgia Football and running backs have had a prominent place in the college football world since the days of Herschel Walker in the 1980s. So much so, that not having a 1,000 rusher on offense typically indicated a "down" year for the Dawgs.

But McIntosh is not a 1,000-yard back. In fact, he's never rushed for more than 850 yards in a season. But don't let his absence from astronomically high rushing totals fool you. The 6"1, 210-pound back from Fort Lauderdale, Florida is more than NFL-ready.

The current age of NFL football has seen the running back position evolve into a serious receiving threat. Players such as Alvin Kamara and Austin Ekeler have become matchup nightmares for opposing defenses as legitimate pass catchers that can also tote the rock. McIntosh played a role extremely similar to this for Georgia in the 2022 season.

During his 2022 campaign, McIntosh was the workhorse for the Georgia offense, carrying the ball 150 times for 829 yards. While his running abilities were certainly on full display, his pass-catching abilities were a major component of the Bulldogs' success in 2022. As a running back, McIntosh was 3rd in total receiving yards as well as receptions during the Bulldogs' second national championship run. His 888 total career receiving yards are the highest of any running back in the history of the University of Georgia.

With NFL teams tending to save picks on running backs for later rounds in the draft, it is unlikely he will have his name called on day one of the draft. However, McIntosh's size combined with his versatility could make him one of the first backs taken in this year's draft.
