Potential Offensive Breakout Game from Georgia

Georgia has had some very slow starts in the year’s first three games. They will look to change this versus UAB, which could be the perfect storm.

UAB could be the perfect game for Georgia to get on the right track as far as first-half success on the offensive side of the ball. The Blazers have given up 52 first-half points in their past two games. Also, they have given 975 yards of offense in those two games.

Those 52 first-half points scored by UAB's opponents bode well for a Georgia team that's resembled two separate football teams; one that struggles before the half, and one that's dominant afterwards.

  • First four possessions versus UT-Martin
      • 8 completions on 12 attempts
      • 67 yards
      • 5.6 yards per attempt / 8.4 yards per completion
      • 1 completion of at least 15 yards
  • Last five possessions versus UT-Martin
      • 13 completions on 19 attempts
      • 227 yards
      • 11.9 yards per attempt / 17.4 yards per completion
      • 7 completions of at least 15 yards
  • First two possessions versus Ball State
      • 8 completions on 10 attempts
      • 48 yards
      • 4.8 yards per attempt / 6.0 yards per completion
      • 1 completion of at least 15 yards
  • Last seven possessions versus Ball State
      • 15 completions on 20 attempts
      • 235 yards
      • 11.7 yards per attempt / 15.6 yards per completion
      • 6 completions of at least 15 yards

In UAB’s second game, Georgia’s Southern exposed UAB’s passing defense, where the Blazers were torched for 344 yards through the air. Despite the struggles with Georgia Southern's passing game, UAB ranks in the top 40 in yards allowed at 189.3 and has already forced three interceptions this season.

Georgia will likely look to build on the second-half performance of Carson Beck and UGA receivers against the Gamecocks. Beck rebounded from a poor first half and put up 269 yards on 27 completions to lead Georgia to the comeback over South Carolina.

UAB was able to limit the Eagles to only 92 rushing yards; however, they could not limit the running game the following week versus Louisiana. Georgia will look to exploit UAB in the run game coming off a performance against Louisiana where they gave up 305 yards on the ground. Also, against Louisiana, UAB gave up 208 yards through the air, leaving Louisiana with over 500 yards of offense for the day.

Georgia established the run game against South Carolina for the first time this year, behind the 118 yards on the ground, Dajuan Edwards racked up. Georgia will look for another good game by running the ball behind Edwards and the offensive line, and UAB is a formidable opponent ranking 116th nationally in yards allowed on the ground with 190 per game.

Georgia has an opportunity Versus UAB to silence some doubters of the offense and an opportunity to help build confidence in Carson Beck and the Receiver room.
