What to Expect From Georgia's Offense Against UAB

Georgia hosts UAB this Saturday before starting a run of seven conference games in eight weeks.

Three games into the 2023 season and Georgia's offense still has some work to do.

The starts have been getting slower, the Bulldogs went a whole half without scoring a touchdown last week against South Carolina, before dominating the second half for a 24-14 victory. Quarterback Carson Beck is efficiently leading an injury-riddled offense, though there is a noticeable "big play" ability that isn't being tapped into.

With one more non-conference game left before the regular season finale in eight weeks, Georgia can start to hit its stride today against Alabama-Birmingham (1-2, 0-0 AAC). Here's what to expect from the Bulldogs' offense:

Early deep shots

Aside from one overthrow to Arian Smith in the season opener, and a great play by a South Carolina defensive back last week; Beck isn't struggling when he throws deep passes. The issue is that he's not taking enough shots. Whether he's missing targets or just following a safe game plan, there's no denying that Georgia's receivers are getting open downfield.

A more aggressive game plan could be just what Beck needs to start the game in a rhythm. He has a powerful arm, he's accurate and he's not reckless. If the coaches have been holding him back, the porous UAB defense presents an opportunity to let Beck take charge of the game.

More progress in the running game

Daijun Edwards breathed new life into Georgia's running game when he returned from injury last week. With just 20 carries, he became the Bulldogs' first 100-yard rusher of the season. He added variety to the running game that Georgia just didn't have when Kendall Milton and Roderick Robinson were getting most of the carries.

Milton is still playing hurt, and Robinson is doubtful, but Edwards is back to full speed with a game under his belt. Georgia will have a consistent rushing attack today with the Colquitt County product getting most of the carries again.
