Georgia Tech Basketball Closes Regular Season Out With Win Over Boston College

Georgia Tech enters the ACC Tournament red hot after three straight wins

Georgia Tech will be entering the ACC Tournament as winners of three straight after going on the road and beating Boston College today 73-65.

Tech has had a great stretch of games since the month of February and they enter into conference tournament play playing their best basketball of the season. They have won five of their last six, six of their last eight, and their two losses were nail-biters. This team has been playing well for a month now and credit has to be given to Josh Pastner for getting this team turned around.

Tech started the game on a 9-0 run in the first couple of minutes before BC started clawing their way back into it with a 7-0 run to make it 9-7. The Eagles briefly took the lead, but the teams would be battling back and forth for the next couple of minutes in a tight game.

About halfway through the first half, Tech had gotten the lead back to seven points and started to look like they were going to pull away from BC, but the Eagles were not going away just yet.

Georgia Tech has won three games in a row heading into the ACC Tournament

A layup from Jalon Moore finally broke up a 6-0 run from the Eagles to get the lead back up to three for GT. Tech kept the Eagles at arm's length and led by six heading into the half. It was a good start by Pastner's team, but there was room for improvement to make sure they closed the game out.

Here were the halftime stats from the game today:

The three-point shooting had cooled considerably in the first half after a great start and GT was going to need its shooting to get back on track.

The start of the second half was the exact opposite of what Georgia Tech was looking for.

The Eagles got a 10-4 run to tie the game up at 40-40 and Boston College would remain hot. BC would go on a 15-6 run to take a nine-point lead and it was starting to look like the team was going to have a loss to end the season.

But the Yellow Jackets responded.

Down nine, GT went on a 9-0 run in just a little over a minute to quickly erase the Boston College lead and tie the game. The two teams kept battling and with 5:35 to go in the game, it was tied 60-60.

Kelly hit a three to go up 63-60, but Mason Madsen hit one for BC to tie the game back up. Another three from Kelly gave the Yellow Jackets the lead back and Sturdivant hit another to make the lead 69-63 with under a minute left and it looked like Georgia Tech had the win if they could play defense and hit their free throws.

That is exactly what they did and Georgia Tech got an eight-point win on the road.

For the game, Tech had three guys in double-digits, with Kelly leading the way with 21, Terry having 17, and Sturdivant had 14. Franklin followed his triple-double up with an eight-point and 15-rebound performance.

Here are the full game stats from today:

Georgia Tech is going to go into Greensboro with a lot of confidence next week and they should. This team is playing well and has a chance to win a game and maybe multiple next week. The Yellow Jackets will play the loser of the Virginia Tech-FSU game today, so keep an eye on that score.

The ACC Tournament begins on Tuesday and GT will be playing at 2:00 p.m.
