2025 Georgia Tech Target Sidney Walton Announces His Top Five Schools

Sidney Walton announced his top five schools on Sunday night including Missouri, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Georgia Tech. He finished 2023 with 39 tackles, 28 passes defensed, and a forced fumble. Moody had another successful season under head coach Jake Ganus reaching ten wins for the second consecutive season and making it to the quarterfinals.

According to 247Sports, Walton is a three-star prospect, the No.27 player in Alabama, and the No.46 cornerback.

I caught up with his head coach a few days ago and here is what he had to say about the standout cornerback.

“He’s like right under 6’3 and 190 pounds. He can touch the top of the backboard, can run, and has quick feet. Again he is only in year two of playing football. He was able to pick up a lot of offers and I think he’s about to make his decision here shortly. You talk about a leader and everything you want in a kid and I am just so thankful for him,” said coach Ganus.

Here is a little backstory on Walton and how his head coach stumbled upon him in his first year at the helm.

“Sid is special to me. It was late December and I was in the library and met the team. Sidney wasn’t there and he wasn’t on the team. I walked down the hall and the principal was showing me and my wife around. We go to the gym and there’s this kid and he is dunking in slides, flat-footed dunking in slides,” said Ganus. “I said where was he and why wasn’t he at the meeting? They were like he doesn’t play football. I said shoot okay, yeah he doesn't play football like here’s my resignation if he doesn’t play football. I worked on him and talked to his parents a good bit. They were at Moody before I got there. I talked to his dad and mama into letting Sidney play some football. We said we were going to try him at some receiver and score some touchdowns. First day out there, I said let’s go to the other side. Let’s see what you look like at corner. The kid has played football for two years in his life.”

Walton still plays basketball for the Moody Blue Devils and is a great multisport athlete.

I got the chance to see Walton at the Under Armour Camp in Atlanta back in February and was impressed with his footwork and ball skills. He is a natural-born competitor and plays press coverage with a different edge. Walton is very physical and his press can give receivers trouble coming off the line. I think you will see next year more of those passes defensed and break-ups turn into more turnovers for Walton. The ceiling for the cornerback is very high as the Moody staff has developed him into a high-caliber player in a short span of time. At the next level, if he can get that same time of development Walton could turn into a lockdown corner capable of shutting down receivers. The potential is very high and Walton is just getting started.
