Breaking: Top 100 Georgia Tech target Joseph Jonah-Ajonye makes commitment

Georgia Tech shot their shot, but one of the top defensive linemen has chosen to play for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.

Tonight, Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, who plays at Oak Ridge High School in Texas, made his commitment and he is going to be joining the Bulldogs No. 1 ranked recruiting class. Yesterday, Jonah-Ajonye listed his top four schools, which did include the Yellow Jackets along with Oregon and Oklahoma. He took an official visit to Atlanta at the beginning of June, but that was not enough to keep him away from their rivals.

Things had been trending this way for a while, but it was made official tonight.

He is ranked the No. 37 player in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 6 defensive lineman in the country.

Here is the scouting report on Joseph-Ajonye, courtesy of 247Sports analyst Gabe Brooks:

"Big-framed, scheme-versatile defensive lineman with jumbo edge dimensions and true interior frame capacity over the next few years. Pushing 6-foot-4 with a 6-10+ wingspan.

Powerful at the point of attack with long levers that can separate from blockers. Displays engagement strength to knock opponents on their heels.

Functional athlete who can redirect better than expected relative to size / role. That broadens an already wide pursuit range thanks to closing speed and motor. Works his way back into plays that initially aren't there for him.

Appears to be extremely personnel versatile. Already owns experience outside and inside in odd and even fronts. Possesses limited track and field experience but does technically check the multi-sport box.

Change of direction is not a weakness, but can still get looser through the hips. Stands up at the snap at times and can play high. Expanding his move set and developing more secondary rush ability will enhance his pass-rushing upside.

Looks like one of the top defensive line prospects in America entering his senior season of Fall 2023. Projects as a high-major prospect who could become an impact player with a long-term ceiling in the early rounds of the NFL Draft."

Georgia Tech is hoping to add to its recruiting class next week when two targets make their decision. Four-star corner Troy Stevenson and three-star defensive back Christian Pritchett are set to make their commitment choices and Georgia Tech is the Crystal Ball leader right now.
