Athlon Sports Predicts Georgia Tech Football's ACC Finish In 2023

Where will the Yellow Jackets finish in 2023?

Georgia Tech has not made a bowl game since 2018 but came close last season after going 4-4 in the final eight games of the season under Brent Key, who was promoted from being the interim head coach in the offseason. The Yellow Jackets have been active in the transfer portal, bringing in one player at every position to either challenge for playing time or provide depth.

The schedule remains daunting, with games against Georgia, Clemson, and Ole Miss on the schedule and DraftKings and other sportsbooks have set their projected win total at either 4 or 4.5.

After Clemson and Florida State, I think there is a lot of uncertainty in the ACC and that could leave the Yellow Jackets with a chance to surprise. In their ACC Preview, Athlon Sports predicted the order of finish among the ACC teams and had Georgia Tech finishing 11th out of 14 teams.

Here is what they had to say about Georgia Tech heading into 2023:

"A 4-4 finish over the team's final eight games (and overall much-improved on-field product) was enough for Brent Key to have the interim tag removed for '23 and beyond. Maintaining the momentum from last year's solid play won't be easy, but Key and his new staff assembled a quality haul from the portal that included quarterback Haynes King (Texas A&M) and receiver Dominick Blaylock (Georgia). Improvement along the line is a must after the Yellow Jackets allowed 39 sacks in '22. A handful of portal additions will also help on defense, and coordinator Andrew Thacker was retained after this unit limited opponents to 5.6 yards a snap last year. However, losing end Keion White, linebacker Charlie Thomas and cornerback Zamari Walton leaves big shoes to fill this offseason."

What will Georgia Tech's record be in 2023?

I think Georgia Tech has a good chance of going over their projected win total this season, but there is uncertainty at a lot of positions and this team is going to have to prove that their play at the end of last season was not a fluke.

Yesterday, the game times for Georgia Tech's first three games of the season were announced. Georgia Tech is going to kickoff the season with the national TV audience to themselves in a 7:30 P.M.  matchup against Louisville on ESPN on Friday, Sept. 1st. The Yellow Jackets host South Carolina State at 1:00 P.M. the next weekend and then a primetime matchup in Oxford, MS against Ole Miss is one deck for week three.
