Georgia Tech vs Louisville Set For Primetime Matchup On ESPN

Georgia Tech is going to face the Cardinals to open the season

The game time for Georgia Tech vs Louisville is set and the Yellow Jackets are going to be kicking off the 2023 season in prime time.

The Yellow Jackets vs the Cardinals will kick off at 7:30 P.M. on ESPN Friday, Sept. 1st.

The date for the opening game of the season has been known, but now the time is as well and Georgia Tech is going to open the season with the college football audience to itself, as it is one of the only games on that day.

Caesars Sportsbook has the Yellow Jackets as eight-point underdogs in the opening game. DraftKings has Georgia Tech as an 8.5-point underdog in Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Georgia Tech has only played Louisville twice in school history with the first meeting coming in 2018. The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 against the Cardinals and have won both games decisively. GT won 66-31 in 2018 and 46-27 in 2020.

While Georgia Tech might be an underdog, I think they can win this game. While Louisville has brought in a pretty impressive transfer haul and head coach Jeff Brohm will look to make a splash in his first season at his alma mater, there is still plenty of unknown with Louisville.

The Cardinals rank 99th in returning production and they are going to be missing some key players from a defense that rushed the passer really well last season. A new starting quarterback is also going to be under center, although Cal transfer Jack Plummer is familiar with Brohm and his offense.

Georgia Tech is undergoing plenty of change as well. The defense is trying to find ways to replace Keion White, Charlie Thomas, Ace Eley, and Zamari Walton, and the quarterback battle has not been settled just yet. There is a brand new crop of receivers as well and the offensive line has plenty of improvement to make.

That is what makes this game so intriguing. It is a matchup of two coaches looking to get off to a good start with their alma maters and the winner of this game could use it as a springboard for a winning season. There are questions for both and it will be interesting to see what is answered in the opening game on Friday, Sept 1st.

In ESPN analyst Bill Connelly's latest SP+ rankings for the 2023 season, Louisville was projected 36th and Georgia Tech was ranked 70th. ESPN's FPI has Georgia Tech ranked 65th heading into the season and Louisville 46th.

Georgia Tech faces Louisville in week one

Early game score predictions are going to be coming in as the offseason goes and the latest one for this game comes courtesy of 247Sports. They made score predictions for each week one game and they are favoring the Cardinals in this week one matchup.

247 has Louisville winning by a score of 41-24 and that would not be the start to the season that Georgia Tech wants (hit the button on the right of the game scores post to scroll through the predictions for week one).
