Bowl Projections 2023: Georgia Tech Picks Up Two New Projections As Selection Day Nears

Georgia Tech is playing in its first bowl game since 2018

Most of the recent bowl projections for Georgia Tech have sent the Yellow Jackets to New York City to face either Rutgers or Northwestern in the Pinstripe Bowl. However, there were two recent projections that have Georgia Tech going to two completely different games.

247Sports gave a new projection that has Georgia Tech going to Annapolis, MD to play SMU. SMU is playing in the AAC title and if they win, they could even be a contender for a New Year's Six game. They are a really good team, but quarterback Preston Stone was injured in last week's win over Navy and is out for the rest of the season.

Georgia Tech holds an 8-2 all-time series lead against SMU, but the teams have not played since 1969. Georgia Tech won the last game 24-21. The two programs met every year from 1950-1959. SMU's only wins against Georgia Tech came in 1950 and 1958.

Where will Georgia Tech play in the postseason?

The other projection came from The Athletic and it sent Georgia Tech to the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa and they will be playing UCF. That of course would be an interesting bowl game and a matchup that fans are familiar with. The two programs met last season and that loss would be the final game that Geoff Collins would coach at Georgia Tech. UCF went 6-6 in their first season in the Big 12 but did have some signature wins, like a 45-3 blowout over Oklahoma State. This would be a high-scoring game and a much more convenient trip for GT fans than New York.

There are a lot of different projections going around right now and where Georgia Tech goes is a bit up in the air. Stay tuned to see more projections and the selection of the games on Sunday.
