Brent Key Finishes Fourth In ACC Coach of the Year Voting

Key led Georgia Tech to a 6-6 record this season

Today, the ACC Coach of the Year was revealed and while he did not win, Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key did earn two first-place votes and finished in fourth place. Florida State head coach Mike Norvell deservingly won the award with 36 first-place votes. Louisville's Jeff Brohm and NC State's Dave Doeren finished second and third respectively.

Most were projecting Georgia Tech to win only three or four games this season, but Key helped his alma mater exceed those expectations and Georgia Tech won six games and clinched their first bowl game since 2018. He led his team to big upsets against Miami and North Carolina, came close to upsetting Louisville in the season opener, and played a much tighter game against No. 1 Georgia than most were expecting. Georgia Tech's 23 points against the Bulldogs were the most that Georgia allowed all season.

Key is not the only Yellow Jacket to earn honors this week.

Jaylon King earned second-team All-ACC at safety, Jamal Haynes was the third-team All-ACC running back, and Haynes King, Eric Singleton Jr, Jordan Williams, Joe Fusile, and Zeek Biggers were voted as honorable mentions at their positions.

Singleton Jr was in the running for offensive rookie of the year and he finished second. NC State wide receiver Kevin "KC" Concepcion was awarded the Rookie of the Year.

Singleton Jr and offensive tackle Ethan Mackenny were named to the Freshman All-American team by On3 Sports today.

Singleton Jr. leads all freshmen (true or redshirt) nationally with 64.2 receiving yards per game and ranks second among true freshmen nationally with six touchdown receptions. His 706 receiving yards and six touchdown catches both rank among the top 10 overall in the ACC, while his six TD receptions are just one shy of the Georgia Tech freshman record of seven, held by Calvin Johnson (2004) and Ahmarean Brown (2019).

Mackenny started the majority of the games at left tackle for Georgia Tech this season and you could see his improvement in each game. Mackenny was part of a Georgia Tech offensive line that helped pave the way for the ACC's top rushing attack and finished 20th in sacks allowed per game.
