Everything From Georgia Tech Quarterback Zach Pyron After Wednesday's Practice

Georgia Tech has the benefit of not only having one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC in Haynes King, but also a talented and experienced backup, which a lot of teams in the confernece don't have. Zach Pyron played during his freshman year in 2022, but lost the quarterback battle to King last fall. It is a luxury for the Yellow Jackets to have dependable depth for this season and Pyron even came in to run some select packages last year. He got a chance to speak to the media for the first time this spring and here is everything the Yellow Jackets quarterback had to say.

1. On the benfits of being in the same offense for the second straight year...

"mean, I love being in the same offense because everything is, you already know. But Coach Weinke said from day one this year when we started installing it, you know, Brett Favre stayed in the same offense almost this whole time in the NFL and he broke everything down to the very smallest details, even if you already knew it. So that's something that we've really focused on. It's like, no matter how well we know the offense right now, we're acting. like we don't know it at all we're breaking everything down and you know for me it's giving me a deeper understanding of everything which is allowing me to elevate my game because now I'm able to help positions and offense line make certain calls and not that you know I might not have been able to a year or two ago."

2. On if he set any goals for himself and what he is looking to improve...

"Absolutely. I want to be, you know, a lot smarter. I want to elevate football IQ, of course, because I feel like you could never learn enough. I want to be a lot more accurate. I feel, you know, accuracy is one of the most important things for a quarterback, so I continue to be more accurate, and then, you know, I feel that all starts with my feet, so I've really been working hard and have a conscious effort on my feet this spring so far."

3. On what he learns from Haynes King...

"I mean he's super competitive I know we both are so that's something you know continue to learn from is you know how he handles it how he handles being competitive and everything and then you know he's just, his IQ from football is just off the charts, raised you know, Texas high school football, his dad's a legend you know, so he knows everything and so just learning everything that you know he knows from the run game and everything and how he breaks stuff down you know because he is older, so he's seen everything so just asking him, hey you see this, how do you break this film down watching this so just stuff like that. I mean it's awesome we're super close you know if we ever have a question about something we know we can call each other you know we got a group chat and we'll send jokes in there with each other and stuff and you know it's you know outside of football when there's nothing to be done that's competitive you know just family you know the best way to put everybody in that room so it's it's pretty cool."

4. On if he will be used in certain game situations...

"We're still base installing everything so we haven't really gotten any of that game plan you know, I hope that continues I'd like to be on the field however I can be just because you know my competitive nature, you know, but that'll be something later on when we start game planning for teams and stuff, you know, right now we're super base install and you know, two weeks into spring, we're still getting everything figured out, but I hope so."

5. On what he sees from the two freshman quarterbacks...

"I mean they're like sponges man, they soak up so much knowledge, they're always asking questions whether it's me or Haynes or even Brody Rhodes you know, Brody's been here just as long as I have, knowledge with Weinke, and you know we had a different office coordinator my freshman year but same terminology for everything kind of so um you know they just always asking questions always wanting to learn you know whenever we're doing an extra throw and they never miss so it's just you know they're doing all the right things that they need to do and I love seeing that because you know the team only goes as a quarterback goes and you know we can't have just one you need multiple and I love it because you now they they're the future also outside of we know when me and Haynes are gone so I love seeing that and seeing how much they want to learn and how much they want to work and just you know how competitive they are we keep saying that but you know you got to be competitive in the quarterback room to grow."

6. On him throwing at this year's pro day and if he has been working on his arm strength...

"Absolutely I've been trying to you know increase arm strength you know a good bit because it's important to have but your release is also just as important, so always find things that you can fix. You're never good enough, right? So I've been trying to elevate that, and it's just going to help my game, so I've been working on everything."
