Everything from Marco Coleman post-practice: 8/14

Georgia Tech defensive line coach Marco Coleman spoke to the media today

The final week of fall camp has begun Georgia Tech and soon, this team is going to turn its full attention to the 2023 season opener against Louisville.

Today, defensive line coach Marco Coleman had a chance to speak with the media and discuss his position group. Here is everything the Yellow Jackets legend had to say following practice:

1. On how easy it has been to coach some of the guys that were here before he left for Michigan State for the 2021 season...

"It is still a work in progress. I was gone for a year and there were some new techniques that were taught. Having those guys work and having those guys in the spring and they have gotten better each day. We continue to work and that will be the same process throughout the whole season. Just continue to work and get incrementally better each time we step out there."

2. On Noah Collins...

"We are still competing and we are still in training camp and everybody is getting their fair share of 1s, 2s, and 3s. So nobody has solidified themselves, they are all really good, athletic, have playing experience, so it is just a continuous work. They are all probably going to play and it is probably going to be week-to-week. They are really good players and we are going to have to depend on all three of them."

3. On transfers Eddie Kelly and Etinosa Reuben...

"They have been awesome. Their energy, the vibrance, they are smart, they are hungry and everything about them. They are exactly what we had in mind and anticipated, they work hard, they exemplify what a Georgia Tech football player is and I am happy to have them."

4. On Zeek Biggers...

"A big part of it has been the way that he has transformed his body and you can see it in his play. He gets to the ball more, he is even more stout, he can sustain being in more plays and even his attitude, he is being a little more aggressive. His confidence has grown more with all of the positive things that have come along with the transformation of his body and he is going to be a big part of our success with him and what he has been able to do for himself."

5. On Horace Lockett...

"He is still a young player. The fundamentals, just like you would expect for any other young player to have to learn. Being big is not just enough to be inside, you gotta have good technique and if you don't it could be a problem. But Horace is still getting better, better, and better and I am looking forward to him also progressing and being a big part. When you have someone that is 330 LBS, it makes a big difference. Horace, he is still growing, he is a young player that is still growing."

6. On his confidence in Brent Key as the head coach...

"Brent has an opportunity to see what it looks like. He has been a champion here and he has a passion for what is going on here. I have full confidence and it is because he has humbled himself and gathering counsel from those who have done it and in doing that is going to help him and is going to help us. I have full confidence in him and his ability to be able to lead us to be able to get what we need done."

7. On Sylvain Yondjouen's development...

"I say that he definitely has all of the physical traits, he can run a 40, he is strong so all of those things definitely, but he is still growing as a football player and you know this season with some of the things that we are doing and the way that we are coaching him and the different style from last season, I think it will bold well for him to do the things necessary to show that NFL caliber type of talent. But our focus for him right now is to be the best college football player he can be right now, that is now something we really... we don't talk to much about that right now."

8. On who has caught his eye out of the new group (the freshmen)...

"Well you know, fortunately for us, we have the depth with so many older guys coming and continue to develop. The guys that came in on the defensive line, Ezra (Odinjor), Malcolm (Pugh), and the big Bryston (Dixon), but you know Bryston has not been able to get back out there yet, but those guys are steadily developing and growing and we will see how things go, but we have pretty good depth with those older guys so there is no stress, they can just develop."

9. On freshmen Shymeik Jones...

"He has a big body and we can continue to work and develop that and get him adjusted to that body. So again with that group, they are steadily developing and we are spending a lot of time with them to get them ready because you never know what might happen so Shymeik may have to play. It is just a steady approach to develop these guys and understanding what we want from them and understanding college football and what it is about."
