Georgia Tech Long Snapper Henry Freer Talks About Getting Put on Scholarship and much more

Georiga Tech was back on the field yesterday for spring practice after a week off for spring break. After practice, it was the special teams day to speak to the media and among that group was Georgia Tech's long snapper Henry Freer, who was recently put on scholarship heading into his senior season. Freer met with us yesterday and talked about what it was like to find out he was getting put on scholarship and how he is preparing for the 2024 season.

1. On the moment Brent Key put him on scholarship...

"It was-- I mean, it was awesome. It was everything. Just kind of been here for now. It's going into my sixth year. Kind of all the hard work, paying off. It meant a lot. It was really cool. cool."

2. On his journey to get to this point...

"Yeah. When I first got here, I thought I was going to be a student. I didn't even think I was going to be on the team until I got the call over the summer and then I got to go to a camp and then the next year I got to travel and the next year I got in for one or two games and then I got to travel and the next year I got to travel and the next year I got to travel and the next year I got to travel and he next year I got to travel and the next year I got to travel and the next year I got to travel every year it kind of, a little bit more and kind of going into the last year. Now I get to be on scholarship. So it's been, it's been a cool kind of journey to go from there to here."

3. On having Ricky Brumfield back as a special teams coordinator...

"Yeah, it's huge. Just like he (David Shanahan) said, knowing kind of what we're doing. gonna get and not having to try to figure out a new system and a new scheme and like Different calls like you know what it's gonna be. It's you know the install this year is the same as the install last year So we're just that much more comfortable and ready to roll ready to go Yeah, I think the biggest thing maybe this year is you know, they're always ragging on me the the covering right everyone thinks about the snapping But maybe the the covering and getting some tackles and kind of that that aspect of it Yeah."

4. On how the future of the program looks...

"I think you know you can't look at us and think anything other than we're trending up, you know, we're we're on their eyes I think you know, we're starting to do the right thing things, but at the same time, we've got to keep doing the right things, otherwise it's going to stop. So we've just got to keep building and keep climbing, and we're going to get where we're going."
