Graham Ike is key to Gonzaga’s success this season

Wyoming transfer didn't participate in Kraziness in the Kennel out of precaution for his lower leg

As fans took in the experience of seeing the 2023-24 Gonzaga Bulldogs for the first time at Kraziness in the Kennel, many noticed the absence of a particular newcomer from the event's festivities.

Shortly before the preseason event tipped off, it was announced that Wyoming transfer Graham Ike would not participate in the competitions or intrasquad scrimmage. The 6-foot-9 forward missed all of last season with a lower leg injury, and with weeks to go until the exhibition opener on Nov. 3, Ike's health and availability has become a major storyline.

Amid some outside concerns, Mark Few assured Gonzaga fans that Ike will "be ready to go" for the start of the 2023-24 season during interviews at the West Coast Conference Media Day last week. After all, Ike will play a pivotal role as a skilled low post scorer in the post-Drew Timme era, and all signs seem to point toward Ike making a full return to the hardwood.

Former Gonzaga All-American Dan Dickau shares the latest on Ike's health, Few's role with Team USA and more on the most recent mailbag episode of the Gonzaga Nation podcast.
