Bulldogs head down south for a nonconference duel with the Wildcats

Two of the biggest brands in college basketball clash on Saturday when the Gonzaga Bulldogs head down to Rupp Arena for a showdown with No. 17 Kentucky.

The nonconference affair is the second of a six-game home-and-home series between the two programs that began last season, when No. 2 Gonzaga thumped No. 4 Kentucky, 88-72, at the Spokane Arena.

Gonzaga (17-6, 8-2 WCC) has an opportunity to bolster its at-large resume for the NCAA Tournament with its first Quad 1 win of the season. Many bracketology experts don't have the Bulldogs in the 68-team field, despite being ranked 25th in the NET Rankings.

Gonzaga has some momentum on its side after shooting 15-of-33 on 3-point attempts in its 96-64 blowout victory over Portland on Wednesday. Braden Huff had 25 points on 11-for-16 shooting in a season-high 24 minutes off the bench. Anton Watson added 20 points.

The Bulldogs lead the West Coast Conference in points (84.7, 12th in NCAA Division-I), field goal percentage (50.7%, fifth nationally) and rebounds per game (40.7, 16th nationally).

No. 17 Kentucky (16-6, 6-4 SEC) snapped a two-game losing skid with a 109-77 win over Vanderbilt earlier this week. Antonio Reeves led with 24 points, Rob Dillingham added 20 and nine assists and the Wildcats, who lead the country in 3-point field goal percentage (41.1%) knocked down 15 3-pointers against the Commodores.

Kentucky has lost three of its last five games, two of which came at home, as John Calipari's program continues to slip in the AP poll and it's dropped a few pegs on the seed line in most bracketology predictions.
