Look: Chet Holmgren sets OKC Thunder rookie record for blocks

The former Gonzaga star is already making waves

Just two games into his NBA career, Chet Holmgren is setting records.

The former Gonzaga basketball star showed his vast potential in the Oklahoma City Thunder's 108-105 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. Holmgren finished with an eye-opening 16 points, 13 rebounds and an OKC rookie record seven blocked shots.

Thunder teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 34 points, was impressed with the rookie's game.

“Chet was who he needed to be for us to win this game,” Gilgeous-Alexander told the Associated Press after the game. “He’s going to be a very good basketball player.”

Holmgren was 3-for-4 from the 3-point line, including a transition three from the top of the key with 1:03 left that tied the game at 102-102.

After struggling in his NBA debut against the Bulls - 11 points, 4 rebounds and no blocks - Holmgren knew he needed to be better against the Cavs.

“That was unacceptable,” Holmgren told the AP about his performance against Chicago. “I was able to apply what I learned from it tonight.”
