Women’s college basketball rankings: Gonzaga drops to No. 23 in AP Top 25 poll (2/6/23)

In this story:
The Gonzaga women’s basketball team fell six spots to No. 23 in Monday’s Associated Press Top 25 poll after splitting a pair of games in the Bay Area last week.
The Zags (22-3, 12-1 WCC) lost 77-72 to Santa Clara on Thursday, which ended a 14-game winning streak for head coach Lisa Fortier’s squad. The team responded with a 78-56 win over San Francisco on Saturday behind a career-high 27-point night from senior guard Kaylynne Truong.
Gonzaga’s bounce-back win maintained its top spot in the West Coast Conference alongside Portland. The Zags and Pilots will battle for sole possession of first place on Saturday in Spokane.
While Gonzaga dropped to its lowest national ranking since Dec. 13, it wasn’t the biggest fall in the poll. Iowa State dropped nine spots to No. 21 after losing to unranked Kansas State and Baylor last week.
Defending champion South Carolina remained at No. 1 for the 33rd consecutive week, one week shy of tying UConn for the third-longest streak atop the poll. Only UConn (51 weeks) and Louisiana Tech (36) have had longer runs at No. 1.
The Gamecocks are followed by Indiana, LSU, UConn and Iowa, while former No. 2 Stanford dropped four spots to No. 6 following a 72-67 loss to unranked Washington on Sunday.
