2024 4-Star Curtis Givens III Picks LSU Over Indiana, Three Other Schools

Coach Matt McMahon and the LSU Tigers have earned a commitment from Curtis Givens III, a 2024 four-star basketball player from Montverde Academy who was being recruited by coach Mike Woodson and the Indiana Hoosiers.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Well, not every Montverde high school basketball player can commit to coach Mike Woodson and the Indiana Hoosiers.

On Saturday, 2024 four-star guard Curtis Givens III announced his commitment to coach Matt McMahon and the LSU Tigers. Givens announced his decision live on the On3 Recruits YouTube channel.

The 6-foot-2 guard picked LSU over four other schools, including Indiana, Georgia Tech, Texas and Memphis.

Givens took an official visit to the Bloomington campus in September, along with his five-star Montverde teammates Liam McNeeley and Derik Queen. It's been clear for a long time now that Indiana is much more likely to land McNeeley and Queen than it was to land Givens. Woodson's Hoosiers are the clear favorite to earn a commitment from McNeeley, with only Bill Self and Kansas as competition. Kevin Willard and Maryland are the favorite to get Queen, but IU is certainly not out of that recruiting battle either.

A contributing factor to the Hoosiers missing out on Givens here is Indiana's recruitment of a different 2024 guard — Boogie Fland.

Fland is rated above Givens in 247, Rivals and On3's 2024 recruiting rankings. Kentucky and coach John Calipari were long the projected favorites to land the five-star guard, but over the past week, Indiana and Woodson have overtaken the Wildcats according to some college basketball recruiting insiders

Though the signs on McNeeley and Fland are certainly promising, Indiana does not yet have a commit in the class of 2024. With Givens headed to LSU, its another recruit off the board for Woodson and the Hoosiers.
