No. 14 Indiana Plays at Wisconsin Wednesday, Sara Scalia Chases 3-Point Record

No. 14 Indiana women's basketball (20-3, 11-2) will visit Wisconsin (11-11, 4-8) Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. Sara Scalia is closing in on the program's single-season 3-point record, while the Badgers are coming off a momentum-building win over Penn state.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — For the third consecutive game, the Indiana women’s basketball record books could be altered. Thursday, Chloe Moore-McNeil unknowingly notched her first career triple-double, only the fourth in program history. Sunday, Mackenzie Holmes became Indiana's all-time leading scorer with 2,365 points. Now, Sara Scalia is chasing the 3-point record.

Entering the No. 14 Hoosiers' game at Wisconsin on Wednesday, Scalia needs three 3-pointers to tie Amanda Cahill’s single-season record of 78, set in 2017-18. Whilst Holmes overtook Tyra Buss for the all-time scoring record on Sunday, Scalia matched Buss as No. 2 on the single-season charts with 75 threes. The fifth-year senior shot 4-for-10 on Sunday. Another four on Wednesday breaks the programs' single-season record. In the past seven games, Scalia has made four-plus 3-pointers five times.

Indiana also continues its pursuit of a second consecutive Big Ten title. With five regular season games remaining, Indiana and No. 4 Iowa are tied in the Big Ten standings at 11-2, one game behind No. 2 Ohio State. Wisconsin is way out of the hunt at 4-8. The Badgers are No. 131 in the latest NET rankings, though they just picked up perhaps their best win, beating Penn State 69-65 at home Sunday. Wisconsin trailed by 17 points before the comeback.

At 6-foot-4, sophomore forward Serah Williams matched her season-high 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds against Penn State. That was Williams’ ninth-consecutive double-double this season and 12th in 22 games. The sophomore leads the Badgers with 18.2 points per game. Surely, Indiana’s Holmes will be tested in the paint Wednesday. Besides Williams, the only other Badger to average double figures is sophomore guard Ronnie Porter at 10, though she hasn't reached that in the last three games.

Despite Williams carrying the weight, seven Badgers scored in Sunday’s win. None reached 10, yet it was good enough because Wisconsin held Penn State well below its season scoring average. The downside for Wisconsin is 18.9 turnovers per game, which ranks last in the Big Ten. Wisconsin’s three youngest players in Sunday's starting lineup – Williams, Porter, and D’Yanis Jimenez – are the team’s three turnover leaders.

Wednesday’s matchup tips off at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Peacock.
