Raif Jensen is just starting out on his recruiting journey. The Holstein (IA) Ridge View freshman understands it can be a long road.

The trip brought him to Iowa City this week, where he watched the Hawkeyes work out during their spring ball. They recognized his strong, two-way, ninth-grade campaign.

"It was cool watching the practice and seeing how everything was done, and also getting to talk to the coaches," he told HN.

Jensen (6-1, 180) threw for four touchdowns and ran for three more as a freshman. He delivered 30 solo tackles and a pair of picks on defense.

"We didn’t talk a whole lot about position and where I would fit in, but they like where I am athletically," Jensen said of his conversation with the Iowa coaches.

He plans on returning to Iowa City in June for a prospect camp. He'll be coached by the Hawkeye staff and can show it his talents.

"I really like the way Iowa works, and I like the coaches. The facilities are nice, and overall it's just a great place," he said.

For now, that's the only camp on his schedule. But, again, he has three years of high school remaining.

"There's not much interest from other schools (other than Iowa) yet, but it’s early," Jensen said.
