LIVE Updates: TCU Horned Frogs at Kansas Jayhawks

In this story:
The Kansas Jayhawks take on the TCU Horned Frogs on Homecoming weekend, and they are trying to stay undefeated on the season.
I'll be giving updates live throughout the game here, so make sure you check back frequently. You can also follow live updates on the Rock Chalk Podcast and Blue Wings Rising Twitter accounts, and join the conversation in our Discord server.
2:28pm: Some horrible missed calls on the final drive does the Jayhawks in. It was very unlikely that they were going to go undefeated anyway, but there were some big mistakes made by the Jayhawks.
2:14pm: Kansas needed another stop, but TCU scores quickly.
At least Kansas has another chance to tie it up.
I think I want that outcome if I'm Kansas?
— Kent Swanson (@kent_swanson) October 8, 2022
2:08pm: Bean is making some ridiculous plays, including another insane touchdown pass to Quentin Skinner in the corner of the end zone.
Back-to-back preposterous plays by Jason Bean. Just incredible. He has been a magician today. This game is bananas.
— Rock Chalk Blog (@RockChalkBlog) October 8, 2022
1:59pm: Kansas got the stop, and will have the ball with another chance to score.
1:53pm: It's a miss, and there are a lot of people questioning that decision.
The vaunted short side option on 3rd and long
— Mike Vernon (@M_Vernon) October 8, 2022
1:51pm: Kansas converted on 4th and 2, but can't convert it. 31 yard field goal coming up.
1:44pm: Kansas is driving, but a deep shot that looked complete is ruled out of bounds.
1:36pm: The rollercoaster continues. But a penalty and then kickoff out of bounds made it too easy for TCU to take the lead back.
That unsportsmanlike penalty and kicking out of bounds doomed them on that drive. So many mistakes. TCU’s offense is cooking. Bean is going to have to keep up.
— Rock Chalk Blog (@RockChalkBlog) October 8, 2022
1:28pm: And now we have the game we were expecting to see!
Jason Bean takes just 4 plays to get the Jayhawks into the end zone, with a bomb to Quentin Skinner in the end zone.
1:22pm: And TCU punches it in. Kenny Logan returns the kickoff and Kansas will try to get something going again.
Most important sequence of the game upcoming.
— Scott Chasen (@ChasenScott) October 8, 2022
1:17pm: Just a brutal pick thrown by Jason Bean there.
1:12pm: Well that was less than ideal.
What a bizarre play. Derius Davis tip-toed the sideline and everyone stopped like he went out of bounds.
— JayhawkSlant (@JayhawkSlant) October 8, 2022
51 yards later he walks in the end zone.
It was just a simple, quick out pass.
17-17 all with 6:29 #kufball
1:08pm: I can no longer believe this season is real...
Current Heisman ballot:

2. Stroud

1:04pm: WOW!! Kansas gets a turnover by forcing a fumble, and then Bean converts some beautiful passes to get back to the end zone.
12:54pm: And the defense comes up huge again.
3 and out for TCU and Kansas is getting the ball back.
12:45pm: Bean provides a spark for the Jayhawks, as they get a couple big plays and finish off the drive with a touchdown.
Kansas opens the 2nd half with a TD drive! 2:01 as backup QB Jason Bean comes in and ties the game for the Jayhawks. 10-10, 12:59 3Q
— RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) October 8, 2022
12:41pm: Not good for Kansas...
Jason Bean is practicing hand-offs with Devin Neal. Might have to expect Bean to be the QB. #kufball
— Jordan Guskey (@JordanGuskey) October 8, 2022
12:21pm: The Jayhawks tried to give TCU some more points to end the half, but OJ Burroughs gets an interception on the long throw. We go to half.
And we are at halftime.

Stats: pic.twitter.com/jFOqev1t4r
12:17pm: Kansas gets the points on a field goal, but kicks the ball out of bounds on the kickoff.
And the bad news just keeps coming, as Jalon Daniels is injured.
Kansas QB Jalon Daniels is heading to the locker room. Not moving his right arm much as he walks out.
— Max Olson (@max_olson) October 8, 2022
12:14pm: TCU gets the stop, sacking Jalon Daniels on 3rd down. Borcilla on to kick a 40-yard field goal.
12:11pm: Kansas probably would have gone for it on 4th if they hadn't converted that 3rd and 5, but Luke Grimm makes a nice cut to avoid the tackle and pick up the first down.
Luke Grimm does nothing but make plays. Extreme stud.
— Brendan Dzwierzynski (@BrendanDzw) October 8, 2022
12:08pm: Kansas on the move after Sevion Morrison breaks off a 40-yard run to start the drive.
12:03pm: TCU moves quickly down the field and scores a touchdown to make it 10-0.
Should’ve been 7-3 with The Booth going nuts. Now it’s 10-0 and all the pressure on the offense here…I’m so salty
— Braiden Turner (@bturner23) October 8, 2022
As bad as this defense has been on this drive. Kansas' defense was phenomenal to this point. The offense has to score, again just not acceptable.
— JAKE ELLENBOGEN (@JKBOGEN) October 8, 2022
11:59am: Jalon Daniels lost the ball by the goal line, and TCU recovered...
BALL OUT AT THE GOAL LINE! SHADRACH BANKS PUNCHING THAT BALL OUT!!
— Frogs O’ War (@FrogsOWar) October 8, 2022
Defense stepping up AGAIN!
2nd Quarter:
TCU 3, Kansas 0
Very much bringing back old KU memories where one thing goes wrong and it snowballs. Hang in there, defense!!
— Jayhawk Talk (@JayhawkTalk) October 8, 2022
11:53am: Crowd is really making a difference here today.
BOOTH
— Mike Vernon (@M_Vernon) October 8, 2022
And Lonnie Phelps of course. Always Lonnie Phelps.
Lonnie Phelps Jr. is absolutely dominating this game on defense. Approaching game-wrecker status.
— Michael Swain (@MSwain247) October 8, 2022
Lonnie Phelps with another great play, chasing Max Duggan down from behind!
— Rock Chalk Podcast (@RockChalkPod) October 8, 2022
Gain of only 1, TCU to punt again.
11:51am: This is not the game we were promised...
Interesting situation right now: Kansas and TCU are, arguably, two of the most explosive offenses in the Big 12.
— Conner Becker (@ctbecker) October 8, 2022
It's 3-0 Frogs. 2Q 9:19.
This one's been all D. #kufball
11:47am: We can't help but agree with Brendan.
I like going for it. Much rather that than a 50-yard field goal this early.
— Brendan Dzwierzynski (@BrendanDzw) October 8, 2022
And it worked until the very end.
11:46am: A disappointing ending to that drive, as a fumble (recovered by KU) brings up 4th and 5 and the ball gets knocked out on the 4th down pass.
#KUfball turns it over on downs.
— Michael Swain (@MSwain247) October 8, 2022
The offense was finding a rhythm and faced a third and manageable but the fumble really stalled things. TCU takes over on its own 32.
11:42am: This drive is more what Kansas fans were expecting. Big plays from Ky Thomas, Devin Neal and Luke Grimm so far.
You're seeing the versatility of the KU offense. From speed option to a tough downhill run, to five-wide and a timing pattern. Jayhawks into TCU territory.
— Scott Chasen (@ChasenScott) October 8, 2022
11:38am: Good end to the quarter for Kansas. Lonnie Phelps gets another sack, and then Craig Young gets another tackle for loss.
ANOTHA ONE!! 🛑 @KU_Football pic.twitter.com/DSsN8nkmfU
— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) October 8, 2022
11:31am: Kansas still can't get anything going, and the defense is back out on the field looking for another stop early in this one.
Offense on the struggle bus here early. That possession didn’t even last 100 seconds. Back on defense, which has held up great thus far. Pretty wild how they’ve gone from “Is the defense a huge liability?” to “The defense is keeping us in games!” this quickly.
— Rock Chalk Blog (@RockChalkBlog) October 8, 2022
11:20am: Late start due to getting caught up on normal pregame with GameDay, but TCU leads 3-0 and are driving again.
Crowd is getting loud for another 3rd down and short though.
