What LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson Said About Kentucky Ahead of Super Regional

LSU head coach Jay Johnson spoke with local reporters on Wednesday in Baton Rouge, discussing his Tigers and the upcoming Super Regional vs. Kentucky at Alex Box Stadium.
The entire media scrum can be found here, though you can find what Johnson said about the Wildcats below:
On the pitching staff and playing UK a second time...
"Pitchers have done a good job. I think they know who they are and what their blueprint is for executing really well."
"There are some things from that that'll be helpful. You have to do your due diligence to see where they're at today. That served us well last weekend with Tulane, so we'll re-work that process with Kentucky."
On having experience against small ball...
"Creating awareness for the players, understanding what they do, what the game calls for them to do to be successful, how to get them off track in that. We'll cover all of those things," Johnson said. "They're one of those teams i've had a lot of experience against ...it's definitely a style and a brand of baseball they're very committed to that they do really really well that's not seen out here a lot."
On UK having success vs. Paul Skenes earlier this season...
"(Skenes) is great at evaluation. Given that that was two months ago, he's in probably a different place than he was at that time. Their team's gonna be different in terms of where they're at. But we'll look at it, and he'll look at it and make the adjustments we need to make."
On how Kentucky has progressed...
"I think they're an interesting case of the new college baseball, we'll call it. We got a lot of attention for the transfer portal, by adding some superstar players that — we wouldn't be in this position today if we didn't have those players. They did a great job overhauling their roster and using (the transfer portal) to overhaul their roster.
They're one of the oldest teams in college baseball and have a lot of veteran players ... they evaluated in that really, really well. They were close to an NCAA Tournament team last year, you can make an argument that maybe they should've been in, and they have a lot of those pieces back too.
I just see them as a really solid team that knows their identity really well, that plays to that identity and has had a very successful season. When the brackets came out, I don't make many predictions in college baseball, but I was pretty confident that this was who we would see if we were to advance out of our regional."
Game one between Kentucky and LSU on Saturday, June 10 is set for 3 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN. Times for games two and three (if necessary) are still to be determined.
