ChatGPT ranks Kentucky basketball's top 10 centers of all-time

Kentucky basketball has had a number of great frontcourt players come through the program over time.

We asked ChatGPT to give us the top 10 centers in Kentucky basketball history. Note that GPT's knowledge of sports history only goes up to January of 2022, so Oscar Tshiebwe didn't make the list.

I'm sure the AI would have placed him inside the top 10 was it aware of Tshiebwe's accomplishments.

Here's the list that it gave us:

1. Dan Issel (1967-1970)

The all-time leading scorer in UK history, Issel had an impressive college career before going on to success in the ABA and NBA.

2. Bill Spivey (1949-1951)

A key player for Kentucky during their 1951 National Championship season.

3. Sam Bowie (1979-1984)

Bowie had a stellar career at Kentucky and was famously picked ahead of Michael Jordan in the 1984 NBA Draft.

4. Rick Robey (1974-1978)

5. Melvin Turpin (1980-1984)

Known as "The Dipper," Turpin paired with Bowie to form one of the most formidable frontcourts in college basketball.

6. Mike Phillips (1974-1978)

Another key player from the 1978 championship team, Phillips was known for his strong inside play.

7. Anthony Davis (2011-2012)

While Davis only played one season at Kentucky, he left a significant mark, leading the Wildcats to a National Championship in 2012. He was also the National Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American.

8. Willie Cauley-Stein (2012-2015)

A versatile defender and shot-blocker, Cauley-Stein was a force on both ends of the court during his time at Kentucky.

9. Alex Groza (1944-1949)

Groza was instrumental in leading the Wildcats to two National Championships in 1948 and 1949. He was named the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in both years.

10. Wah Wah Jones (1945-1949)

Jones was another key member of the 1948 and 1949 championship teams, and he's remembered as one of Kentucky's all-time greats.
