Former Kentucky Forward Chris Livingston Keeping Name in NBA Draft

Livingston is officially a one-and-done following his freshman season in Lexington.

On the final day of the NBA draft withdrawal deadline, Kentucky forward Chris Livingston's decision has been announced.

The former McDonald's All-American is keeping his name in the NBA draft, pursuing a professional career, ending his tenure at UK after his freshman season, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports:

The decision isn't a surprising one, as the affiliation with his agency Klutch pointed toward the professional route from the get-go, though many thought a second season in college would benefit the Akron, Ohio native.

The announcement joins former UK forward Oscar Tshiebwe, who is also keeping his name in the draft. UK shooting guard Antonio Reeves withdrew his name on Wednesday, but still may not return to Lexington.

After working out for the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Hornets, along with earning an invite to the draft combine in Chicago — though he opted out of playing in the five-on-fives — the 6-foot-6, 220-pound Livingston is taking a shot on himself in the draft, which takes place on June 22.

“Basketball means everything to me, and it was a dream of mine to be a part of an incredible basketball program like the University of Kentucky,” Livingston said in his initial announcement entering the draft. “Thank you to Big Blue Nation, my teammates and all the coaches and staff for your support.

“From middle school, high school, and AAU to now, many people have helped motivate and inspire me to achieve my goals,” Livingston added. “Thank you to my mom, grandparents, brother and sister for the sacrifices they made along the way. With that being said, I’m declaring for the 2023 NBA Draft. It’s only up from here.”

“I’m excited for Chris and his family to go through this part of the process on his journey,” UK head coach John Calipari said. “Coming in as a physical wing, Chris showed substantial growth as this season went on and proved to be a capable scorer, reliable defender and a relentless rebounder.”

Livingston played in all 34 contests as a freshman at UK, averaging 6.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. The Akron, Ohio, native earned Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team honors. He managed seven double-figure scoring games, including four in a five-game stretch in February, excelling down the stretch of the season.

Now, he's off to the league, hoping to join a laundry list of former Cats that have heard their name called.
